One of my very first books to read was ‘why-A-students-work-for-C-students-and-B-students-work-for-the-government’ by Robert Kiyosaki. My first impression of this book was that it speaks to people seeking the path of entrepreneurship, which it does. However, after indulging, my take away was different. I learned about generosity, and Robert talks about it in three distinct chapters. In his book, he tells parents to teach their children to give because it works as an unfair advantage. I couldn’t help but wonder why there was so much emphasis on giving. I embarked on a bit of digging, and I must say there is power in giving. I want to call it the cycle of giving.
The cycle of giving began when God gave us life, and he continues with this cycle every single day. The Bible says, “And God can provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work.”- 2nd Corinthians 9:8. Why do you think we are given in abundance? Not so that we can drown in it but so that we can share. To continue with the cycle and give to others. With that, the mantle is passed to us – humans. “A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed” – Proverbs 11:25. Stay with me.
Gone are the days when manner fell from the sky. I believe that God blesses through people. While some selfish suckers may withhold the blessings, they ultimately can’t stop the supreme power. When one does not give (knowledge, opportunities, love, connection, money, a helping hand, name it) whatever they have in abundance, they will remain with it. They become like stagnant water; water comes in, and nothing flows out. The water becomes motionless and lacks freshness. Eventually, the stagnation attracts bacteria and fungi; nothing no longer grows or survive in such an environment. When one stops giving, it affects the cycle, and they will be replaced. As I said, nothing can stop the supreme power, which works in unconventional ways. Since they are out of the cycle, the inflow eventually stops. Lacking inflow may have adverse effects on a person’s life journey; a lack of refreshment can lead to feelings of being stuck in a rut, stunted progress, lack of sense of direction, and unhappiness. That’s why, in yet another book, Robert Kiyosaki says, “Whenever you feel ‘short’ or in ‘need’ of something. Give what you want first and it will come back in buckets. That is true for money, a smile, love, friendship. I know it is often the last thing a person may want to do, but it has always worked for me. I just trust that the principle of reciprocity is true, and I give what I want.” In addition, Robin Sharma says, “To get all that life wants for you, apply what I call the boomerang Effect: Give out what you most want to see come back.”
As we participate in the cycle of giving, we will be like flowing water with an inflow and outflow. Our lives will embody movement, energy, freshness, and life. The movement will support the growth and flourishing of anything in it. It will enhance clarity, tranquility, and radiance. We and the people around us will be able to breathe refreshed air as we progress in the journey of life.
